Jeremy Mclean Intro to Photography Webquest

1. Briefly explain what a digital camera is.
A camera that stores the pictures or video it takes in electronic format instead of to film. There are several features that make digital cameras a popular choice when compared to film cameras.

2. Name and describe 5 common features found in the latest digital cameras on the market.
  • Resolution
This refers to the sharpness, or detail, of a picture. The higher the number of pixels, the higher the quality. You can determine the resolution you need by determining what you really want to do with these pictures. Picture size is measured by how many pixels make up an image.
  • Memory
Digital cameras save pictures as data files instead of film. The size of your memory determines the number of pictures you can take before downloading the images on to a computer, after doing that you can fill the memory with new pictures that you take.
  • Flash Type
A flash is the extra light needed to shoot inside or in low light conditions. Most digital cameras have built in flash with a range of 10 to 16 feet.
  • Self-Timer - this is an option that lets the photographer be included in the photo. Self timers have a pre set delay giving you about 10 seconds to run into the shot. There are also cameras with a remote control option to work the shutter.
  • LCD Screen - this screen will let you see what the photo will look like and let you see what you have already taken and erase what you don't need. The screens use a lot of power but are very desirable for editing purposes.
3. Insert a picture of three different digital cameras

4. What is a megapixel?
Digital images are made up of thousands of very tiny tile like picture elements. The more pixels there are the better image resolution.

5. Name and copy the adress of three websites that prove tips for photographers.

http://digital-photography-school.com/11-tips-for-beginner-photographers

6. What are three tips for taking better photos that you find interesting?
  1. Compose your shot thoughtfully-Imagine the photo in your mind before framing it in the viewfinder.
  2. Fill the frame with your subject-Don't be afraid to get closer to your subject. If you are using a digital camera with alot of megapixels to spare, you can crop it later.
  3. Focus- Poor focusing is one of the most common ways that photographs are ruined. Use the automatic focus on your camera if you have this is done by half-pressing the shutter button.
